This WD My Passport Mac model is an evolution over the 2015 My Passport Ultra. I'll pick it for new Mac related purchases over the older model, but won't rush out to replace older drives. I like the 2015 My Passport Ultra's rounded corner case better but it's very minor point for me. You do that by clicking at the top of the WD My Passport finder window and then heading to the top of the screen. Select File/New Folder to create a new folder. Finder Create New Folder. Click on the text ‘untitled folder’ and give the folder a new name. Repeat to create more folders. Way 2: WD Passport Copy and Pasting.
I can not find how to change the password on my Drive. I can log in no problem, and I have installed WD smartware on my Mac, but there is no security tab. I looked at a few forums and watched a few YouTube videos, but to no avail. The software seems to install on the Mac, but after it installs and I launch it, it brings me back to the option to install again; seems like an endless loop. My best guess is that for some reason the software is not installing properly. Can I download the software from the site instead of installing from the drive? If so, how do I know which version of software to download?
It’s My Passport 750 GB, I’m installing on Mac. Yeah something weird is happening. I downloaded the most recent version of Smartware, v 1.3.7.1 and it works kind of. Under the security tab there are no options, just blank space (see attached upload).
However under Registration there are fields that can be access. Under Diagnostics the sub menus are there but they are greyed out and non-responsive. The drive is unlocked and I can view it under Finder. I did a test, and I can copy files to / from the drive, the functionality is all there. But for some reason there is no options available under Security and Diagnostics, etc.
Any suggestions?

Perfectly paired with Apple?s Time Machine backup software and password protection, the My Passport for Mac drive helps keep your files safe. WD 2TB Black My Passport for Mac Portable External Hard Drive - USB 3.0:. Designed for Mac and Time Machine ready.
Password protection with hardware encryption. Trusted drive built with WD reliability. USB 3.0 port; USB 2.0 compatible.
3-year limited warrantyExplore this item. I bought this USB 3.0 2 terabyte drive to replace a USB 2.0 1 terabyte external drive that was using for a Time Machne drive on my Mac. I plugged the new drive in - I didn't even bother installing the utilities - and it was recognized immediately by the Mac.
Getting it to 'adopt' my old Time Machine backups was straightforward but painfully slow. I would attribute that to my old drive being USB 2.0 but also the huge number of files. Save yourself grief: don't use 'Finder' to copy the files, use 'Super Duper!'
Still, expect that it could take 30+ hours to migrate a terabyte of backup files. Once it finished, I told Time Machine to use the new drive and it's worked like a charm ever since. Now what I don't like: the white drive activity LED on the drive can either be OFF or it can be blinking. I would prefer a true activity indicator, and maybe a choice of colours (tricolour LEDs are cheap). The utilities on the drive were much newer than what Western Digital had online.
The utilities are quite limited in what they can set. Other than that, I'm very pleased with it. And Walmart was by far the least expensive place to buy it.
